Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, and professionally referred to by the name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the debut female to be signed with J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. In October 21st, 2016 she dropped Pho, her debut EP for the label Dreamville Records. This was when she first gained notoriety. The album that she released as her debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading her music onto the internet back in 2012 after she launched her debut mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography in 2013. Ari Lennox continued to post her music online as well as her own single Bound. In 2015, she appeared in Omen's Elephant Eyes album on Sweat it out on July 21st. Later that year her music circulated throughout the Dreamville team, as J. Cole wanted her to join him in creating some possible references for Rihanna. On December 8 it was revealed that she had officially signed by Dreamville Records. Backseat was the result of her participation to The Revenge of the Dreamers II album. The 21st of October, 2016 her debut EP was released, titled Pho. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening performance for J. Cole on his track Change in 2017 and also performed on 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. The singer also performed on the tracks Nothing but the Best by EarthGang and Icarus with Bas and her labelmates. Ari Lennox, on the 16th July, 2018, released her first single "Whipped Cream" from Shea Butter Baby. The music video came out on the 5th. Then on November 9 she dropped two more singles: 40 Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. On the 13th of November, two brand new singles called One and Pedigree. One and pedigree. They then teamed up as a guest on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on the track Shea Butter Baby on November 16 and released as a single in February 2019 for her debut album the same name. The song, released with a video posted on YouTube on February 20, 2019, has been viewed over 3 million times within the first 7 days. She was the supporting act for 6LACK in their From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December of 2018.
